Social Skills Groups and Programs
Frogs Landing has provided social skills groups (also known as Croakaramas) for the past thirteen years. In the past three years we have associated with the S-Club to provide a variety of summer programs. This has included 5-6 week, 4-5 day per week, intensive social skills groups for children from the ages of 8 to 16. In addition we now associate with the S-Club to provide special interest groups such as Computer Camp, Science/Animal Camp, and Girls Only camp.
Frogs Landing and the S Club will provide once a week or bimonthly groups when there is interest from families and availability of trained staff. Fall break, Winter break, and Spring break groups may also take place.
It is our belief that to learn social skills children and teens need to learn and practice in natural community environments. This allows them common experiences with the others in their group so they have mutual interests to discuss. It allows, among other things, for practice in self advocacy skills such as ordering tickets and ordering off menus; maneuvering through public areas such as museums and events; practice in waiting for activities to start; expressing their needs; and appropriate conversational skills with peers. The fact that our groups are fun, sometimes exciting, and offer new and different experiences in the community has shown us that our methods are affective and often strengthen skills outside of the group.
